Patriots Ranked Second Nationally

The Christ Prep Patriots were ranked second nationally among all homeschool teams in a final poll released by The Freeman Scoring, a service utilized by CBS Sportsline's MaxPreps.com. First place honors were secured by the NOAH Jaguars, the homeschool team in the Tulsa area and one of CPA's 2009 opponents (a 39-22 loss on October 23). Other CPA opponents in the top ten were the Lighthouse Christian Academy (Springfield Chargers) who were ranked 8th. CPA defeated the Chargers 24-21 in OT on October 31.

Patriots Fall in Hard Fought Championship Game

The Christ Prep Patriots fell to undefeated Bradenton Prep 26-8 Thursday night at Fort Bluff camp in Dayton, Tennessee. The game decided the NACA Division I tournament championship.

The Patriots put forth a valiant effort against a supremely talented Bradenton Prep team. Bradenton (12-0) indicated CPA was by far the best team they had played all year. The Patriots continued to fight back after several big Bradenton plays. The Patriots trailed 6-0 at the end of the first quarter and were down only 14-0 at the end of the first half only after a Bradenton TD as the half expired.

The Patriots fought back hard in the second half. Despite an injury to QB Darren Wallace after a long run, the Patriots sustained momentum as sophmore backup QB Jack Layman came in to finish off the drive that Wallace started. Lenard Manuel scored a rushing TD and Layman completed the 2-point conversion to Cameron Wainscott.

Despite several other good offensive drives in the second half and some incredible defensive plays, the Patriots fell short.

Patriots Visit the Bluff, Remember Fury Company

In preparation for their 8:00 p.m. (Eastern) game tonight against Bradenton Prep, the Christ Prep Patriots spent some time today on "The Bluff" at the top of Mt. Dayton on the grounds of Fort Bluff Camp. The Bluff is a well known spot to all current and former Patriot players, and the team's annual visit there is the spiritual and overall highlight of this annual trek to Tennessee. The view from the Bluff is breathtaking, as it overlooks the Tennessee River Valley some 1,100 feet below.

The team spent over an hour today at this scenic overlook. A special message was delivered by the Rev. Jim McNally, a close friend of Coach Dick Burton. Rev. McNally challenged the young men spiritually then challenged them to perform their best tonight on the field. One significant quote was "When you think the opponent might be too big to hit, consider them too big to miss!" This devotional time included a discussion of the body and blood of Jesus Christ and culminated in the partaking of communion.

A significant part of the afternoon was devoted to the men of Fury Company. The Patriots will be playing tonight for Fury Company, part of the US Army's 4th Infantry Division currently serving our country in Afghanistan. Coach Burton read a letter sent by his son, Lt. Tim Burton, who sent one of Fury Company's flag which accompanied Lt. Burton during many of his missions against the Taliban in dangerous Afghan territory.

Coach Burton also read the following excerpt from a book called The Furious Longing of God by Brennan Manning:

The noun fury is commonly associated with extreme anger. However, when the Oxford Dictionary of Current English discusses "the fury of a gathering storm," the meaning morphs into intense energy.

When one of England's finest writers, G. K. Chesterton, spoke of "the furious love of God," he was referencing the enormous vitality and strength of the God of Jesus seeking union with us.

Another ragamuffin, Rich Mullins, sought to describe the same longing of God: "In the reckless raging fury that they call the love of God."

Patriots to Play Thursday Night

Greetings From Tennessee! In case you haven't heard, the Christ Prep Patriots will only be playing one game this year in Tennessee. That game will be tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8:00 p.m. against Bradenton (Fla.) Prep. This game will determine the NACA Division I Champion.

After a good practice in Tennessee this morning, the Patriots spent the afternoon on a field trip enjoying some local scenery. After Chapel this evening the team enjoyed watching one of the 8-Man games.

Patriots Battle For Fury

The Christ Prep Patriots have a "12th Man" rooting them on this week at the NACA tournament in Dayton, Tennessee. The Patriots, in turn, are rooting for this 12th Man as it fights a far more perilous battle day-in and day-out on the other side of the world.

The Patriots' 12th Man is Fury Company of the 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army. The soldiers of Fury Company are currently serving in Afghanistan. Their unit and the Patriots have developed a unique relationship this season as each has carried the other's flag into their respective battles.

The relationship between Fury and the Patriots began last summer when coach Dick Burton attended the funeral of one of Fury's fallen soldiers. Coach Burton's son Tim is a Lieutenant with Fury and Coach traveled to Indiana to represent Tim at the funeral. It was at that time Coach Burton conceived of the idea of the Patriots playing for Fury during the 2009 season. He subsequently presented the idea to the team which embraced in heartily. Since that time the communication and momentum have been building as each "unit" has developed a mutual respect, admiration, and following of the other.

In the photo above, senior running back Lenard Manuel models the Fury Company logo which has been affixed to the front of each of the Patriots' helmets. Pictured below is the decal which has been placed on the backs of all of the Patriots' helmets. It is a decal which honors the fallen soldier mentioned above.

During halftime of this year's homecoming game against East High School, Coach Burton discussed the relationship between Fury and the Patriots. He unveiled the logos and decals at that time. Patriot Football Families,

Sorry I didn’t add some explanation to the link to the pictures of the 4th ID in Kunar Province in Afghanistan. Here are some details –

The photographer is Lucian Read, and he is a correspondent for Dan Rather. He has been riding in my son Tim’s MRAP for transportation to the FOBs (forward operating bases) and COPs (combat outposts) over the last few months.

The pictures give an idea of the kind of terrain Fury Co. and the rest of 4th ID have to deal with on a daily basis.

The men of Fury Co. are very encouraged by the support you are showing, and they have sent us a gift… it’s
a surprise, and it is supposed to arrive before we leave for TN.

Patriots Make Final Preparations for Tennessee

With the game cancelled this weekend with the Oklahoma City Patriots, the Christ Prep football team is making final preparations for the National Association of Christian Athletics tournament next week in Dayton, Tennessee. The Patriots practiced Friday night at Red Bridge and will practice tomorrow (Saturday) in shells after taking team and individual pictures. The team leaves Monday night for the trip to Tennessee, with games scheduled for Wednesday (Nov. 11) and Friday (Nov. 13). Stay tuned for reports from the action in Dayton.

Coach Profile: Darrell Wallace

There's a familiar face in a new role on the Patriots' sideline this fall. Former CPA standout Darrell Wallace has traded in his helmet and shoulder pads for a clipboard and headset as he settles into his new role as Assistant Coach for Christ Preparatory Academy.

Only last season Darrell was leading the Patriots in his role as tight end, linebacker and quarterback. The 2008 season, Darrell's senior campaign, capped off a five year career for him as a Patriot.

This year Darrell coaches the Patriot wide receivers. This facet of the Patriot offense has improved steadily this year, with the receivers tallying more than 100 yards and seven receptions this past Saturday in their victory over the Lighthouse Christian Chargers of Springfield, Missouri.

Darrell was born in Kansas City and currently resides in Lee's Summit. He is currently attending college locally with plans to eventually transfer to Missouri S and T in Rolla so that he may study engineering.

Darrell overcame significant adversity during his senior season. He suffered a concussion while playing quarterback in the Northeast game. He had to be taken to the emergency room from the game and was sidelined for several weeks. At one time it appeared his career was over prematurely. God healed him more quickly than expected, however, and he was back on the field for the season's final games.

Darrell is one of three Wallaces on the sidelines. Darrell's younger brother Darren is the current Patriot QB and their father David is Christ Prep's defensive coordinator.

When Darrell isn't coaching the Patriots he enjoys following the Chiefs and Texas Longhorns. He also enjoys playing golf, and was a standout golfer for four years on the Christ Prep golf team. He won several tournaments as a Patriot golfer and just last season finished 4th in the Kansas Christian Athletic Association state championships, helping the Patriots win that event by 50 strokes over their nearest competitor.

Darrell has been a leader for CPA both on and off the field. His favorite Scripture passage is Psalm 86:11-12 which says "Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever." Darrell likes this verse because it calls Christians to fear God and glorify His name forever. It is Darrell's life verse and his prayer for every Christian is to strive for God. His goal for this year's team is to bond as a unit and to bring back a NACA Championship in Tennessee.

Darrell desires the prayers of other believers as he continues on with college and seeks and engineering degree. Please remember this godly young man in your prayers as he helps coach the Patriots and as he follows after his career aspirations.

Field Goal Lifts Christ Prep in OT

The Christ Prep Patriots narrowly edged the Lighthouse Christian Academy Chargers today in an overtime game at Shawnee Mission North field. Darren Wallace kicked a 21 yard field goal in CPA's first OT possession. Two plays later the Chargers fumbled on a sweep around right end and the win was secured.

It was a tale of two halves as the first half was all offense for both teams while the second half was a defensive showcase. Lighthouse Christian Academy (LCA) struck first early in the game when Tyler Crain caught a 77 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Purvis. LCA converted on its two-point conversion.

The Patriots came roaring back shortly thereafter. After a recovered fumble, QB Darren Wallace connected on a 15 yard TD strike to Demonta Bailey. Timothy Finley caught a Wallace pass for the 2 point conversion and the game was tied 8-8.

The Chargers added another first quarter score when Jackson Pollock caught another Purvis pass for a 73 yard touchdown. The PAT kick attempt failed.

The Patriots added two scores in the second quarter while LCA added one. Wallace found Bailey again early in the frame, this time for a 60 yard touchdown pass. The Patriots also failed in their ensuing PAT kick attempt. Shortly thereafter, LCA scored on a 15 yard TD pass from Purvis to Swadley. CPA added a score of its own when Darren Wallace scampered for a 68 yard TD run. Both teams converted on their PAT kicks, and the first half ended tied 21-21.

The second half saw both defenses step up. The Patriots nearly won the game in regulation but a penalty nullified another Wallace TD run and a late period fumble stalled the Patriots drive on about the Charger 10 yard line.

The overtime got underway with the Patriots getting the first crack at scoring from the Charger 10. Given four plays, CPA only managed to get to about the Charger 5 after three plays. Coach Burton trotted in the field goal team, however, and junior Darren Wallace drilled the 21 yard attempt from the right hash, giving the Patriots a 24-21 lead.

It was the Chargers turn next, as they were given four plays to score from the Patriot 10. After gaining about three yards on their first rushing attempt, the Chargers fumbled on their second running attempt, sealing the Patriot win.

The Patriots had many defensive highlights with the win. An Isaiah Huges interception was critical late in the 4th quarter as it stalled a late Charger drive. Lenard Manuel, in addition to having a solid offensive performance, totalled 9 tackles. Michael Force and Cameron Wainscott added 7 and 5 tackles, respectively.

Offensively, Wallace was 7-10 passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. Demonta Bailey had 5 of those catches for 99 yards, while Timothy Finley had the other two for 18 yards. Wallace added 126 yards rushing on 25 carries.

With the win, the Patriots avenged a heartbreaking 2008 loss against the Chargers in Springfield. CPA improved to 6-4 with the win, while LCA dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

Today's game was the annual Patriot Senior Day. A halftime ceremony honored seniors and their parents from the football and cheer squads. Seniors honored included Demonta Bailey, Joshua Burton, Jesse Campbell, Kayla Day (Cheer Captain), Jarod Dixon, Gerry Fenton, Davis Finley, Joseph Harp, Isaiah Hughes, Lenard Manuel, Delaney Newth (Cheer), Cameron Wainscott, and Ethan White.

A highlight came after the game when both teams met at midfield to pray together. Both coaches expressed their mutual love and admiration for one another and their teams and acknowledged that the squads share a brotherhood that is rare among competitors. Both teams promised to root for one another as they traveled to Tennessee (CPA) and Florida (LCA) for their respective national tournaments.

Christ Prep vs. Lighthouse Christian

The Christ Prep Patriots will take on Lighthouse Christian Academy of Springfield, Missouri in a 2:00 p.m. contest Saturday at Shawnee Mission North Field. Saturday's matchup is the Patriots' last home game and is Senior Day, which will feature a halftime tribute to CPA's senior football players and cheerleaders.

Lighthouse Christian, formerly known as the Springfield Chargers, comes in to the CPA matchup with a record of 5-3. The Patriots are 5-4. The Chargers defeated the Patriots in 2008 when the two teams met in the Springfield area. The Chargers' results are displayed below:

Patriots Fall to Jaguars 39-22

The Christ Prep Patriots lost to the NOAH Jaguars 39-22 last night in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. CPA had trouble sustaining drives while NOAH took advantage of several big plays on their way to a 39-0 4th quarter lead. CPA's 4th period touchdowns were scored by Jesse Campbell, Demonta Bailey, and Jesse Mann. Darren Wallace scored a two point conversion while Jesse Campbell added another.

With the loss, the Patriots drop to 5-4 while the Jaguars improve to 6-2. Christ Prep is back in action next Saturday, October 31, when the team takes on Lighthouse Christian Academy (formerly Springfield Chargers). The game will be the Patriots' last at home and will be senior day.

It wasn't all bad news coming out of Broken Arrow last night. Scroll down to see some photos of Christ Prep's championship adult tug-of-war team. The Patriot team, comprised mostly of CPA moms and dads, put a big hurt on the team of NOAH adults in the tug-of-war contest, which was held on the 50-yard-line at halftime of the football game. The Patriot tuggers took the first two contests in the best-of-three matchup....

Patriots Travel to Tulsa

The Christ Prep Patriots travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma today for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the NOAH Jaguars. NOAH (Northeast Oklahoma Assoc. of Homeschools) is a formidable opponent with a record of 5-2 against high caliber competition. NOAH's most recent win came last week against Lighthouse Christian (Springfield Chargers) of Springfield, Missouri. NOAH prevailed 36-21 over Lighthouse, which is CPA's opponent next Saturday for the Patriots' Senior Day at Shawnee Mission North.

KC Chief Bowe Visits Patriot Practice

The CPA Patriots got a surprise visit today from Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. Bowe arrived at the team's practice as the guys were putting on their pads and preparing to stretch. He stuck around for well over an hour, answering questions, posing for pictures, and discussing the role of family and faith in his life. The Patriots had the privilege of circling Bowe and praying for him before he left for the evening.

Bowe was a great encouragement to the Patriots as he encouraged them to put the team above themselves. He also stressed the need for God's Word to be central in their lives.

Bowe was raised by his grandmother and aunt and now has a charitable foundation which assists families in similar situations. He spoke fondly of his grandmother and aunt who have been a constant source of encouragement and have consistently pointed him to the Scriptures as his source of inspiration and truth.

Bowe is a third-year pro out of Louisiana State University (LSU), where he was a standout wideout for the Tigers. He played on LSU's 2003 National Championship team and was a first round pick of the Chiefs in 2007. In yesterday's win over the Washington Redskins, Bowe caught six passes for 109 yards. Christ Prep Defeats Olathe Christian 62-20

The Christ Prep Patriots beat the Olathe Christian Warriors 62-20 last night at Shawnee Mission South field. CPA excelled in all phases of the game and was able to get a variety of different players into the action. With the win, CPA improves to 5-3 for the year as the team prepares for the season's home stretch.

Patriots to face Olathe Christian tonight

Christ Prep will take on Olathe Christian tonight in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Shawnee Mission South High School. Please note the change in location of this game. This is a home game for CPA but SM North was unavailable tonight.

Patriot Football 2009 could not find reliable information on Olathe Christian's record this year. It is thought that the team is winless during this year's campaign, although this has not been documented. CPA prevailed last year against the football Warriors--the school's first in 11 man football.

JV Loses 26-6 at Pleasant Ridge

The Christ Prep JV lost 26-6 last night in a contest against Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton, Kansas. Turnovers again plagued the Patriots in the loss, as several good drives were stalled because of fumbles or interceptions. The game had a number of bright spots for CPA, including a 2nd half TD by Jared Nield on a sweep around left end.

The Patriot varisty has a short week as it prepares for a Thursday game against Olathe Christian. That game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Shawnee Mission South field.

Christ Prep Rolls to Homecoming Victory

The Christ Prep Patriots beat the East (KC) Bears 36-6 Saturday at Shawnee Mission North field.

The Patriots displayed perhaps their most balanced offensive of the season as five players scored touchdowns. Senior RB Lenard Manuel led all rushers as he carried the ball 15 times for 112 yards with one touchdown. Junior QB Darren Wallace ran for 49 yards on 10 carries and added a touchdown on the ground. Sophomore RB Jess Mann contributed 29 yards on seven carries and also added a TD.

The passing game had its best performance of the season. Wallace was 8 for 14 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. He connected on an 8 yard strike to Freshman TE Timothy Finley. Senior WR Demonta Bailey had 4 receptions for 76 yards while Timothy Finley had two receptions for 20 yards. Jared Nield and Kellen Mannix each had one catch for 10 and 14 yards, respectively.

Defensively the Patriots were very tough. Senior DE Gerry Fenton scored the Patriots' first touchdown early in the first quarter as he recovered a Bear fumble in the end zone. Other Patriots who recovered fumbles defensively were Isaiah Hughes, Jacob Bronars, and Joe Harp.

Bronars also contributed 12 tackles with a sack. Michael Force added nine tackles and Cameron Wainscott had 8. Other leading tacklers included Jesse Campbell (6 with 1/2 sack) and Gerry Fenton and Joshua Yankoviz with five each.

A highlight of the afternoon was a halftime announcement by Coach Burton that the Patriots would be dedicating the remainder of the season to the US Army's 4th Infantry Division "Fury Company," which is currently serving in Afghanastan. The Patriots placed a decal on their helmets before today's game which represents Fury Company's colors. A decal was also placed on the back of each player's helmet which honors one of Fury's fallen men. Coach Burton closed the presentation with a moment of silence and a prayer for Fury.

Patriots to Face East Bears Saturday

The Christ Prep Patriots will take on the East (Kansas City) High School Bears at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Shawnee Mission North field. The Bears come in to the CPA contest with a record of 1-5. Christ Prep will seek to improve on its 3-3 record at Saturday's game, which is the school's homecoming contest.

The Bears seek to avenge two losses to the Patriots in 2008. Christ Prep won at East by a score of 42-12 on October 9. Then, the Patriots continued their dominance against the Bears, winning 49-21 on November 1 at Shawnee Mission North field.

Junior Varsity: O'Hara 28 Christ Prep 6

The Christ Preparatory Academy junior varsity fell to the O'Hara Celtics Monday evening by a score of 28-6 at O'Hara. The JV fought hard but had a difficult time overcoming turnovers. The Patriot put some points up on the board as Jared Nield ran for a Patriot score on a rushing touchdown.

O'Hara 49 Christ Prep 31

The Christ Prep Patriots fell to the O'Hara Celtics Friday night 49-31 at O'Hara.

O'Hara wasted little time as it scored on a 73 yard touchdown run on its first play from scrimmage. Christ Prep followed on its first possession with a touchdown as several nice runs by Lenard Manuel were capped off by a Darren Wallace 5 yard bootleg which found the endzone. O'Hara continued its first half scoring and the Patriots were unable to answer, finding themselves down 28-7 at the end of the first quarter and 42-7 at the half.

CPA put together three scoring drives in the second half and converted on all three 2 point conversions. However, O'Hara scored one more time and the game ended 49-31. The win improved the Celtics' record to 5-1 and will likely raise their Missouri Class 3 ranking which was No. 8 prior to the game. The loss evened Christ Prep's record at 3-3.

Lenard Manuel and Darren Wallace each rushed for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns. Wallace added five points after touchdown while Demonta Bailey added two more. Wallace connected on four passes, the longest being a pair of 23 yard completions to Jared Nield and Bailey.

Defensively, Cameron Wainscott led CPA with seven tackles while Michael Force was right behind with six. Davis Finley recovered a fumble after a Wallace punt.

The Patriots return back to Shawnee Mission North field next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for their Homecoming contest with the East (Kansas City Interscholastic League) Bears. The JV is in action back at O'Hara on Monday (10/5) at 5:00 p.m.

Patriots Travel to O'Hara Friday Night

The Christ Prep Patriots' next opponent will be O'Hara High School as the team travels Friday night to a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Celtics. O'Hara is 4-1 and comes off a 45-31 victory over a familiar and common CPA foe--St. James Academy. The Celtics are ranked No. 8 in Missouri Class 3 and the team's only loss came at the hands of Class 4 Sedalia Smith-Cotton. O'Hara has averaged over 35 points per game in its first five contests, the results of which are as follows:

Patriot JV Falls to University Academy in OT

The Christ Prep JV fell to University Academy yesterday by a score of 12-6 in three overtimes. CPA took a 6-0 lead on a 17 yard TD pass and catch from Jack Layman to Kellen Mannix (Click here to watch video: http://sharing.theflip.com/session/985ff3820ced154920313a1315b14323/video/6427407) and tried to hold off the Gryphons for the rest of the game. However, University Academy scored a third quarter touchdown to even the score at 6-6.

Christ Prep made a couple of late defensive stands which sent the game into OT. In the overtime period, each team was given the ball at the ten yard line from which it had four downs to score. Neither team scored during the first two alternating possessions but University Academy scored a touchdown on 4th and long on its third possession. Christ Prep was unable to counter on its third possession and the game ended 12-6.

Both the varsity and junior varsity teams will compete at O'Hara High School this coming Friday and Monday, respectively.

Christ Prep Prevails in Track Meet

The Christ Prep Patriots had little time to reflect on last night's loss at West Platte as the team took the field at 1:00 p.m. today to play an 8-man contest against Steelville (Missouri). The game proved to be an offensive showdown with Christ Prep outlasting the Cardinals 64-44 at Shawnee Mission North field.

Both teams rolled up several hundred yards rushing in a game that saw very little punting. Most of the scoring was done early in the game. The first quarter ended with CPA up 30-20 and the Patriots led 58-28 at intermission. Both teams scored one second half touchdown.

The Patriots rolled up 495 yards total rushing for the game. Junior quarterback Darren Wallace led CPA runners with 227 yards on 14 carries which produced two touchdowns. Senior RB Lenard Manuel added 132 yards on 10 carries while sophomore RB Jesse Mann added 113 yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns.

Wallace was 6 of 12 passing for 34 yards and three touchdowns. The receiving TDs were scored by Mann, sophomore WR Jack Layman and senior wideout Demonta Bailey.

Steelville added significant offense of its own as one of its running backs racked up over 400 yards in just a handful of carries.

Michael Force led all CPA tacklers with 11 while Jacob Bronars added six for the Patriots.

The CPA JV is in action Monday as it travels to University Academy for a 5:00 p.m. contest at 6801 Holmes. The Patriot varsity resumes play next Friday evening (October 2) as it visits the O'Hara Celtics in south Kansas City.

Christ Prep Falls to West Platte

It was too little, too late, Friday night for the Christ Prep Patriots as the team lost 49-33 to the West Platte Blue Jays in Weston, Missouri.

The Patriots dug themselves a deep hole early as the Blue Jays returned the opening kickoff to the Patriots' 11 yard line. Two plays later West Platte connected on an 11-yard TD strike. CPA countered shortly thereafter as Lenard Manuel scampered around left end for a Patriot touchdown. The Blue Jays then scored a couple of unanswered touchdowns and the Patriots found themselves down 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Things didn't get much better for the Patriots in the second quarter as West Platte put up three more touchdowns to CPA's one. The result was a 42-13 halftime deficit for the Christ Prep.

CPA mounted a second half charge, scoring three touchdowns to the Blue Jays' one. But in the end CPA fell short to the Blue Jays, who improved to 3-2 with the win. Christ Prep fell to 2-2 with the loss.

Another outstanding rushing performance was delivered by Lenard Manuel. The Patriot senior amassed 298 total yards rushing on 21 tries for an average of over 14 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Darren Wallace also had good success running the ball. Wallace totalled 124 yards on 23 carries, averaging over 5 yards per run while scoring three touchdowns.

The Blue Jays frustrated the Patriots passing attack most of the night, however, as Wallace completed 4 of 12 passes for 44 yards with three interceptions. Wallace connected with Demonta Bailey for three of the completions. Bailey also caught a Wallace pass for a 2-point conversion. Wallace added one kicking PAT.

Busy Weekend For Patriots

The Christ Prep Patriots will play two games in less than 24 hours as the team takes on West Platte Friday night and Steelville Saturday afternoon. The West Platte game will be held at West Platte High School in Weston, Missouri and will start at 7:00 p.m. The Saturday game against Steelville will be a home game at Shawnee Mission North field with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m.

The Saturday game against Steelville (Missouri) High will be an 8-man contest. The Patriot coaching staff hopes many of the JV players will see some action during this game. Steelville is located in south-central Missouri in Crawford County.

Patriot Football Families,

Friday night’s game against West Platte should be very exciting. West Platte is a 2A school like us and is a perennial state contender. They finished 2nd last year. This will be a great test for us, and we hope as many of our fans as possible can be there to cheer us on!
Please plan to arrive at West Platte High School NO LATER than 5:00 pm. We will have locker rooms to dress in. Our uniform will be white jerseys, blue pants, red belts, white socks, our usual away uniform.
West Platte HS is in Weston, MO, at 935 Washington Drive. From the south, get on I-29 North past KCI. Just north of Platte City get off on exit 20, the Rt. 273 Tracy exit. Go left (west on 273. At one point Rt. 45 joins 273. Take the combined road into Weston. Turn left (south) on Washington Drive. The school will be on your right. The field is behind the school, but you will have to drive several blocks past the school to get to the field, because the road to the field is one-way. There is parking next to the field.
Since West Platte is a public school, we cannot suit up our 6,7, and 8 graders. Please come wearing your jerseys.
We play again on Saturday at Shawnee Mission North at 1:00 pm against the Steelville community team. We want everyone to suit out for this game and we hope to get every player some playing time. This will be an 8-man game, and we will ask players to come an hour early on Saturday so we can get some 8-man practice in before the game. We look forward to a fun game, with lots of scoring, and everybody getting a chance to play.

This will be a very busy week for football! We will have our next home game this Saturday at 1:00 pm at Shawnee Mission North against Steelville, MO. This will be an 8-man game, and we hope to have our JV players get lots of playing time since the varsity plays the night before.

Please review the volunteer spreadsheet Mrs. Maloy sent out recently and sign up where you can. We have the opportunity to bless the folks from Steelville. They are very excited at the opportunity to play us at such a nice facility.

We also need of an announcer and music during the game. If you would like to be the voice of the Patriots this year, please let me know!

Patriots Defeat Central

The Christ Prep Patriots defeated the Central Eagles Friday night 42-28 at East High School Field in Kansas City. The Patriots rolled up over 400 yards of total offense in the victory, which improved the team's record to 2-1.

As with last week's game, the Patriots found themselves down early as Central connected on an 84 yard touchdown strike on the game's first play from scrimmage. Central also converted its 2-point attempt after touchdown and the Patriots trailed 8-0.

CPA took little time in coming back, however, as junior quarterback Darren Wallace found senior WR Demonta Bailey with a 30-yard touchdown toss with 6:43 left in the first quarter. CPA converted its PAT try and the Patriots were back to within one at 8-7. Shortly thereafter the Patriots' defense stepped up as a Central bad snap allowed senior CB Davis Finley to tackle the Central punter in the end zone for a safety at the 2:31 mark. The first quarter ended with the Patriots up 9-8.

The Patriots and Eagles traded possessions in the second quarter until Central struck with a 37-yard TD pass with 7:34 left in the half. After a failed PAT, the Patriots were down 14-9. CPA fought back just before halftime, however, as Wallace scored on a QB sneak set up by his long pass to sophomore WR Jack Layman on the previous play. Although the PAT attempt failed, Christ Prep took a 15-14 halftime lead into the locker room.

The third quarter saw no scoring until Wallace found the end zone on another QB sneak at the 3:24 mark. The resulting two-point conversion put the Patriots up 23-14.

The CPA offense struck early in the fourth quarter as Wallace connected with Layman for a 25-yard touchdown. The resulting PAT attempt failed and the Patriots were up 29-14 at the game's 11:43 mark. The next six minutes saw no scoring but both teams ended the game with a flurry. Darren Wallace scored on a 32-yard option run with 5:16 left in the game. The PAT failed and the Patriots were up 35-14.

Both teams added scores late as the Central QB scored on an 11-yard scamper with 4 minutes left in the game. After a failed PAT attempt the Patriots took the ensuing kickoff and marched down field for yet another touchdown as Wallace found Bailey again--this time with a pass covering 37 yards with 2:37 left in the contest. Central also scored on a late TD pass and converted its 2-point attempt and the game ended at 42-28.

Lenard Manuel led all players in total rushing by running for 117 yards in 21 carries. Jack Layman had three pass receptions for 78 yards (1 TD) while Demonta Bailey added another three catches totalling 70 yards and two touchdowns. Wallace contributed 81 yards rushing on 15 attempts, three of them going for touchdowns. Sophomore RB Jesse Mann added 46 yards on 16 carries. In all, the Patriots totalled 406 yards total offense--249 rushing and 157 through the air.

Defensively, seniors Cameron Wainscott (S) and Finley (CB) each had one interception. The tackling was spread among the team with several Patriots including Jared Nield, Logan White, Jacob Bronars, Michael Force and Andrew Langston contributing.

The Patriots take their 2-1 record next Friday to Weston, Missouri to face the West Platte Blue Jays, a Missouri Class 1-A school. The Blue Jays own a 2-2 record after defeating Cass Midway 28-0 Friday night. The Patriot-Blue Jay match up is a 7:00 p.m. contest at the West Platte field, located at 935 Washington St. in Weston.

Patriots Travel To Play KC Central

The Christ Prep Patriots travel Friday night to Kansas City East High School Field to play the Kansas City Central Eagles. Central is 0-3 and has not scored in 2009. The Eagles are coming off a lopsided loss (42-0) against Rogers (Ar.) High School last week. Earlier this season Central lost 35-0 to St. Joseph Lafayette and 20-0 to Schlagle.

The Patriots seek to win for the second time this season and improve the team's record to 2-1. CPA is coming off a 40-22 victory over Northeast after falling 28-3 in its opener against St. James Academy.

The East High School Field is located at 1924 Van Brunt Ave. in Kansas City, Missouri. The contest begins at 7:00 p.m.

The varsity cheer squad has been hard at work during the Patriots' first two games. You may have seen them leading the crowds in cheering on the CPA football team or performing a pre-game dance routine at last Saturday's home game. Members of the varsity squad include Kayla Day (captain), Chelsea Jones (co-captain), Jordan Jones, Mekinsey Johnson, Kirstyn Mannix, Sierra Massing, Ashley Mauk, Jamie Newson, Sydney Newth, Delaney Newth, and Signe Palmer. Patriots Triump Over Northeast

The Christ Prep Patriots scored three fourth quarter touchdowns and beat the Northeast (KC) Vikings 40-22 Saturday night at Shawnee Mission North field. Quarterback Darren Wallace rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Patriots (1-1).

CPA found itself down to the Vikings early as Northeast took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. However, the Patriots answered with two second quarter touchdowns (to Northeast's one) and went into the locker room tied 14-all at the half.

The Patriots and Vikings traded touchdowns in the third quarter but the Vikings' 2-point conversion put them in the lead 22-21 as the period closed.

The Patriot offense got going in the 4th quarter as Wallace found wide receiver Demonta Bailey for a 10-yard touchdown strike early in the period. After a successful 2-point conversion, the Patriots led 29-22. Wallace and Lenard Manuel each scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter to finally put the game out of the Vikings' reach.

A key to the Patriots' success was the punishing rushing of Manuel as he amassed 126 yards rushing on 21 carries with two touchdowns. Manuel advanced the ball on several long runs and had a 30+ yard touchdown called back due to penalty. The Vikings couldn't seem to produce an answer for Manuel and their focus on him opened up other phases of the offense.

CPA had a total of 205 yards rushing for the night. Darren Wallace contributed 62 yards on 16 carries. Wallace was 5-18 passing for 75 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Patriot defense turned in another outstanding performance with a balanced effort. Cornerback Davis Finley led Patriot tacklers with seven while Jesse Campbell and Andrew Langston contributed four each. Caleb Cox, Lenard Manuel, Jared Nield, and Michael Force each had three tackles for the Patriots. Cameron Wainscott had one interception and two tackles.

Northeast had a fairly balanced attack as it rushed for 100 yards and passed for 107. Both teams were penalized significantly. The Patriots had 11 penalties totaling 80 yards.

CPA takes its 1-1 record next Friday to the East High School field in Kansas City where the team will take on Central High School at 7:00 p.m.

Patriots to Face Northeast Saturday

The Patriots opponent Saturday is the Northeast Vikings. Northeast is a member of the Kansas City School District's "Interscholastic League" conference and is a Missouri Class 5A School.

The Vikings are coming in to the matchup with the Patriots with a record of 1-1. Northeast defeated Westport last week by a score of 12-8 but lost 42-14 to Hogan Prep on August 29.

JV Cheerleaders

The JV football boys weren't the only Patriots in action this past Tuesday at Pleasant Ridge High School. CPA has an outstanding cheerleading program led by coach Emily Wells. The JV cheer squad includes the following girls: Alise Rhines (captain), Audra Boyd, Victoria Davis, Phoebe Finley, Morgan LeBlanc, Lexi Olsen and Jolynne Yankoviz. Please Note Changes in V and JV Games Schedule

Two changes in upcoming games have been announced. These changes impact both the varsity and junior varsity.

First, the Christ Prep Patriots will be playing Northeast (Kansas City) High School this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The game will be a home game and played at Shawnee Mission North field, located at 7401 Johnson Drive. Patriot Football 2009 previously reported that the game was going to be an away game at Southeast Stadium this Friday.

The second change involves the JV scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14 at Central. The Kansas City School District made some scheduling errors so Monday's contest must be cancelled. It is unlikely that the game will be rescheduled. Also, the athletic coordinator does not anticipate finding a replacement opponent for Monday.

JV Plays Well But Falls Short at Pleasant Ridge

The Christ Prep Patriot JV saw its first action last night as it took on Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton, Kansas. Points after touchdowns made the difference in the final score as the JV fell 16-12. The Patriots found themselves down early as Pleasant Ridge scored a quick TD only a few plays after the Patriot’s opening kickoff. After that touchdown and the ensuing 2-point conversion, the Patriots settled down and competed well in all phases of the game. CPA scored two touchdowns on runs from Jacob Bronars and Jack Layman. An outstanding touchdown pass and catch from Layman to Kellen Mannix was called back due to a penalty. CPA recovered, however, scoring a few plays later. The Patriot defense showed well and dished out its share of punishment to Pleasant Ridge.

The Patriot JV returns to the field next Monday for a matchup against Kansas City Central. The varsity's next contest is this Saturday evening at home (SM North Field) against KC Northeast.

Patriot Action Continues This Week

The CPA Patriot football team gets back into action this week with two games. The first is a JV matchup Tuesday with Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton (Leavenworth County), Kansas. The JV contest gets underway Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Easton. The field address is 32500 Easton Road--Easton, KS 66020.

The varsity resumes action this Saturday as the team takes on Northeast (Kansas City) High School in a 7:00 p.m. matchup at Shawnee Mission North field. This game marks the first home contest for the Patriots this year. The Patriots seek to build on last year's victory over the Vikings, a Missouri Class 5 opponent.

Patriots Fall to St. James 28-3

Turnovers loomed large Friday night as the Christ Prep Patriots fell 28-3 to the St. James Academy Thunder at Mirocke Field in Shawnee. The Patriots struck first with a 32 yard field goal by Darren Wallace after the team capitalized on a St. James' fumble deep in its own territory. After posting the 3-0 lead, however, the Patriots had a difficult time getting on track offensively and turned the ball over several times either by interception or fumble. The Thunder consistently capitalized on these miscues and put the Patriots in a significant hole by scoring 4 first half touchdowns.

The Patriots showed some bright spots offensively as Lenard Manuel pounded the ball into the St. James secondary. Manuel accumulated some significant rushing yards and had several good runs but it seemed the Patriots couldn't sustain a drive long enough to result in a score.

Both teams defenses stepped up in the second half and held the other scoreless as the halftime and final scores were identical.

St. James (1-0) travels next Friday to Harmon while Christ Prep takes on the Northeast Vikings (1-1). Details on the time and location will be provided early next week. The Vikings are led by first year coach and former Kansas City Chiefs fullback Kimble Anders.

Patriots Ready For First Test

The Christ Prep Patriots spring into action tomorrow night (Friday, 9/4) as the team travels to Mirocke Field (see map link below) in Shawnee to take on the St. James Academy Thunder. The Patriots seek to avenge a 31-30 loss in last year's game. The 2008 back-and-forth contest saw the last score put up by St. James as it executed a perfect "hook and ladder" play in the waning minutes of the 4th Quarter. St. James (4-5 in 2008) is only in its 5th year of existence but has quickly established itself as a formidable opponent in Kansas Class 4-A. The Patriots received some good news Wednesday when it was learned that junior quarterback Darren Wallace was cleared to play Friday. Earlier it was thought that Wallace had sustained a fractured rib during practice but a more conclusive analysis revealed only deep bruising.

Patriot Run Concludes Campout Practice

A welcome relief from "Dirty Thirties," or just another form of torture? The jury was out today on that question as the CPA football team completed its summer camp with a cross-country Patriot Run. The guys ran around willow trees, across pond dams, zig-zagged around bonfire pits and finally ran 150 yards uphill to wrap up the day's practice. This blog post features photos from this grueling run, won by senior safety Cameron Wainsscott.

Patriots Conclude Summer Camp

If you just looked at the below photos without explanation, you might ask yourself: "Is this tent city?" or "Is this Woodstock?" The answer to both of these questions would be "not really," although loud music was heard being played last night throughout the countryside.

Instead these pictures were taken during the Christ Prep Campout which was held Friday night and Saturday morning at the Finley property near Garden City, Mo. The campout has become an annual ritual for the Patriot football team as it concludes its summer camp and heads into its game season.

After Friday's practice at Red Bridge the Patriots headed for the campout where 24 pounds of pork and brisket were eaten in slightly under 87 seconds. The guys enjoyed a great evening of fellowship before "lights out" at shortly before 11 p.m.

The team awoke early and held an excellent practice beginning at 7:00 a.m. Practice concluded with a cross-country "Patriot Run" which was almost literally taken "over the river and through the woods." After practice the team ate biscuits and gravy served by several CPA cheerleaders. The campout was capped off by several skits from players and coaches. Note to future players who don't want to be the butt of jokes by the coaches...don't have a unique haircut and don't pull a groin!

Iowa Jamboree Provides Much Needed Reps

The CPA Patriots returned home from Iowa Friday night knowing much more about their team than they had known earlier in the day. The team competed at the South Harrison Jamboree at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa against three other teams--the host South Harrison Co. (Mo.) Bulldogs, the Gallatin (Mo.) Bulldogs, and the Maysville (Mo.) Wolverines.

While score was not kept in any of the 12-play scrimmages, it is accurate to summarize that the Patriots dominated Maysville, played Gallatin relatively evenly, and was mostly outplayed by South Harrison, whose size seemed to dominate each of the three other teams.

After a shaky start offensively versus South Harrison (S.H.) in the first scrimmage, CPA settled down and had a strong showing defensively against the S.H. Bulldogs. After a two-scrimmage rest, the Patriots then returned to have a two-touchdown offensive burst against Maysville while dominating the Wolverines defensively as well. The final scrimmage of the night featured the Patriots against Gallatin. It revealed a couple of breakdowns defensively, but overall the Patriots showed well against those Bulldogs on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Following are a couple of highlights observed by Finley River. Look for more later this weekend after we get some feedback from the coaches.

Patriots Head to Iowa

The Patriot football team travels to Lamoni, Iowa Friday to participate in a pre-season "jamboree" with three other teams. The event offers CPA players their first opportunity since they put on pads to hit someone besides themselves. Christ Prep will compete against Gallatin, South Harrison and Maysville (all Missouri 2-A schools) in a roud-robin type exhibition to be held at Graceland College in Lamoni. (see photo above)

Coach Burton and his staff are looking forward to seeing how the team competes against unfamiliar foes. The jamboree will give the Patriots a chance to play against all three teams in a scrimmage type format. Coach Burton said each team will get to run 12 offensive plays and 12 defensive plays starting from the 40 yard line. This process will repeated with the other teams and alternated with periods of rest/practice.

Lamoni is approximately 125 miles from Red Bridge Baptist Church where the team will depart at 3:00 p.m. The town is located just north of the Missouri-Iowa border and is just west of Interstate 35. Patriot Football 2009 will attempt to report on the jamboree in the event you aren't able to follow the team in person. Stay tuned!

Saturday: Stretching and Scrimmaging

The CPA Patriot football team held a Saturday scrimmage at Red Bridge Baptist Church. The scrimmage simulated game conditions, complete with chains, down markers, etc. Both the offense and defense showed bright spots while revealing areas in need of improvement.

The practice began with an extended period of stretching exercises. In the photo above, Rebekah Burton leads the team in a series of stretches. From the looks on the faces of some of the players, they'd rather have been running "Dirty Thirties."

This week, the Patriots will make final preparations for Friday night's Jamboree to be held in Lamoni, Iowa. The Patriots and three other teams will participate in the event, which will have the format of a series of round-robin scrimmages. The jamboree should give the coaches a good idea of which of its game segments need the most work heading toward the season opener.

Coach Profile: Keith Fenton

Today's edition of Patriot Football 2009 will feature offensive line coach Keith Fenton. Coach Fenton is in his first year with the CPA program and has been a welcome addition to the Patriot coaching staff.

Coach Fenton was born in Kansas City and currently resides in Lone Jack, a small community in eastern Jackson County. He is a graduate of Grain Valley High School where he played on the football team as an offensive tackle and outside linebacker. He was awarded a scholarship to play football at William Jewell College in Liberty but was unable to compete due to injury.

Coach Fenton is the father of Patriot player Gerry Fenton who is a senior and plays on the defensive line. Prior to joining the CPA staff, coach Fenton was involved in coaching youth football and soccer.

Coach Fenton's favorite scripture is Hosea 4:6 which says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." He says he likes this verse because "The prophet Hosea reminds us that being uneducated with respect to God can bring about our destruction, just as it did the nation of Israel. Couple that with John 14:15 where Jesus so clearly lays out the need on our part to truly love him. When we do we will be motivated to educate ourselves in the word of God to understand his will, happily submit ourselves to it and therefore avoid destruction.”

Coach's goal for the team this season is that it in winning or losing the team’s players play to the best of their abilities and that they push themselves to become better tomorrow than they are today.

Coach Keith has been married to wife Leta for 22 years. In addition to Gerry, they have an older son and younger daughter. Keith and Leta school their children at home. While he’s not coaching football, Coach Keith works for Sprint as a Technology Architect. In this capacity he designs telecommunications solutions. Like Coach Tim Hammack, Coach Keith is an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Missouri Tigers.

Uncommon

Several Patriot players are taking part this season in a study facilitated by Coach David Wallace. The study, based on the book Uncommon by Tony Dungy, is being held each night for 15 minutes before practice. Dungy, who recently retired as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, wrote the book to provide a tool for young men to aspire to go beyond the status quo and be "uncommon" in their approach to life and faith. Dungy employs biblical principles and stories based upon his personal faith to deliver his message. The voluntary study will go throughout the season and begins each day at 5:30 p.m.

Coach Profile: Tim Hammack

An ongoing effort of the Patriot Football 2009 blog will be to profile the CPA coaching staff. Today's edition will feature running backs coach Tim Hammack.

Coach Hammack has been a CPA football coach for three years and has coached track for six years. You'll see him around the practice field helping the running backs improve upon their footwork, ball handling, and pass catching, among other things.

Coach Hammack is a native of Crocker, Missouri and a graduate of Iberia High School near the Lake of the Ozarks. While at Iberia High he played football for four years, playing running back and defensive back. He says he loves to coach sports now because he loves sports and loves watching young people learn, grow, and become better. He also said, "I love competition. What could be better?"

Coach Hammack's favorite scripture is Philippians 2:3-5 which says "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but in humility consider others better than yourself. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." He says he likes this verse because "it reminds me that this is what distinguishes a follower of Christ from other people in the world, having the same mind that Jesus has."

Coach's goal for the team this season is that it achieves true team unity as early as possible. He believes everything else will follow from there. His prayer request for the team is that it would walk in unity and that individual desires would be sacrificed fro those of the team.

Coach Tim has a wife and three children and currently resides in Paola. He enjoys playing guitar and following the Kansas City Chiefs and Missouri Tigers. His "real job" is that of Contract Manager for KGP Logistics (formerly Sprint/Embarq) in New Century, Kansas.

One thing that stands out about Coach Hammack is the way he often runs "Dirty Thirties" with the players. Unlike most men past 29, he can do so without pulling vital muscles or tearing key ligaments. He can also stand upright the next morning! This effort has undoubtedly earned him the respect of the young men he coaches.

The Patriot football team strapped on the pads Thursday for the first time this season. Although contact was somewhat limited during the Thursday and Friday morning sessions, the guys managed to perform all their drills while in full gear. Contact is expected to ramp up Friday evening in preparation for Saturday's Patriot Day festivities which begin at 9:00 a.m. at Red Bridge Baptist Church, located just west of US 71 Highway at the SW corner of Red Bridge and Grandview Roads. Patriot Day is anticipated to be the first opportunity for the team to have a full-contact scrimmage.

Full Moon Rising...

After taking Tuesday off because of poor weather conditions and equipment checkout, the Christ Prep Patriots returned to the field Wednesday for two intense practice sessions. The morning workout focused on special teams while the nightcap appeared to be all about conditioning. After two rotations of "County Fair," the Patriots picked up where they left off Monday by running 32 "Dirty Thirties." (See photos below). By all accounts the team appeared to have improved its conditioning since Monday, however, as everyone appeared to have retain their afternoon snack:).

New challenges await tomorrow (Thursday) as the team dons the pads and runs its drills and sprints in full gear. Thursday's and Friday's practices will ready the team for the full-contact "Patriot Day" to be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Patriots Idled By Weather

The CPA football team had to cancel its morning 2-a-day session due to a severe electric storm in the area. Lightning strikes and a light rain were in the area until late morning. Many Patriots capitalized on the cancellation by returning to bed for some much needed sleep.

This evening's session was held at True North as each of the players was fitted for equipment such as pads, helmets, etc. The fitting reminded the guys that full contact will be here soon. And while this might excite most of the team, the prospect of running "Dirty Thirties" in full gear does not. Better weather is expected tomorrow as the Patriots return to First Family Church at 6:30 a.m. for their next practice. Stay tuned for more reports throughout the week.

Evening Practice Heats Up

The CPA Patriot football team took the field Monday at 6:00 p.m. for its first evening practice of the season. Although the temperature was some 27 degrees warmer than at the team’s morning session, the squad came out with excellent energy and hustle. The practice was much more focused on football skills than in the morning session as the players engaged in many position-specific drills. Quarterbacks worked on footwork and passing technique while the receivers worked on running precision routes. The team responded positively to the opportunity of scrimmaging during the last third of the practice, with the defense donning yellow “pennies” or scrimmage vests. The scrimmage culminated with a dog pile after coach Burton challenged someone to “come up with the ball.” The team will be back at it on Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. Please pray for continued endurance and stamina for these young men.

Sun Rises on 2009 Season

The Christ Preparatory Academy Patriot football team launched its 2009 season this morning at 6:30 a.m. under the backdrop of a beautiful Overland Park, Kansas sunrise. Approximately 41 young men participated in the morning session. Practice started with light jogging and stretching but the coaching staff wasted no time in proceeding to intense conditioning which culminated in “Dirty Thirties,” a series of thirty, 30-yard dashes designed to prepare the athletes to endure the rigors of four quarters of football. After completing the sprints, Coach Dick Burton exclaimed to the team: “You guys have done something no other Patriot football team before you has done.” Later Coach Burton explained that he usually starts the season out with fifteen 30-yard dashes but changed his mind after the team’s seniors approached him and requested that the team not ramp up from 15 to 30 30-yard dashes, but instead fast-forward immediately to mid-season expectations. “The seniors told me they wanted this team to be special, that they wanted to accomplish great things this year.” The team, after completing the required number of 30, wanted more. So they ran an additional two 30-yard dashes back-to-back and all together as a team (See photo below), instead of in groups of five as the others had been done. During the drill the young men were exhorted to “make their bodies their slaves,” a reference to I Corinthians 9:27.

Conditioning was followed by “County Fair,” a series of agility and technique drills performed in different small groups. The practice concluded with other basic and fundamental football drills, including proper huddling and offensive and defensive formations.

The Patriot football team will be back on the field this evening at 6:00 p.m. for its second practice of the day. Two-a-days will be held during the next two weeks at First Family Church in Overland Park. You are welcome and encouraged to attend practice and cheer these young men on in their efforts to glorify God through football.

Only nine days remain before the CPA Patriot football team begins its 2009 season. CPA Coach Dick Burton and his squad will hit the field at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3 at CPA's new home--First Family Church in Overland Park, Kansas.
